Wednesday, November 24. 2004White FillingsWhite fillings are an excellent way to restore worn and broken teeth. Updated composite materials have excellent wear and longevity. What a beautiful way to restore your smile! Tuesday, November 23. 2004Risk management- keeping your teeth healthy for a lifetimeI have seen lots of folks with teeth that are ground down in the front. For a long time I have been strugling how to prevent people from ruining their front teeth. Just lately, I got together with my Orthodontist and together came up with a plan to prevent such bad things from happening. By moving the teeth in the proper position we can prevent premature wear and be able to keep the teeth for a lifetime. As far as the teeth that have been affected, we have to prepare them to be in harmony with the newly aligned teeth. As dental professionals we cannot simply just sit back and do what I call supervised neglect. You deserve the very best from us and you can choose to be healthy for a lifetime.
Warm regards, Dr. Calilung Tuesday, November 9. 2004New Blog SoftwareHello everyone! We have been busy updating our website to better serve you our patients and friends.
Thursday, April 8. 2004Office uniformsThis journal entry has nothing to do with direct patient care, but is kind of related... Today my staff and I were discussing the issue of office uniforms. I like the "Team Look". This means that everybody in the office is wearing a similar shirt color as well as a similar design with matching pants. I have struggled over the years with office attire and have run the full spectrum from street clothes to wearing hospital surgical smocks for the back-office and just regular casual wear for the front-office administration. But overall, I have come to like the team look the best with the back office wearing a clinic jacket for universal safety protection. I like to have the back office staff wear a patterned jacket that fits the theme of the office uniform. I prefer to have the white lab coats. I think the white doctor's lab coat is comfortable, protective and quite professional looking.
![]() Making healthy choices for ourselvesToday's entry is dedicated to what I call the "Horse Couple". Yes... They are crazy about horses... It sure was a joy to see my Horse Couple 2HC2 back at the office after a couple year absence due to job changes and just being very busy with life. It sure was great news to hear that my HC got married after many years of being together. Congratulations to the two of you! We talked about jobs in general and how we all often times see our jobs as a secure place where we don't have to worry if our next paycheck will be enough.
Making a decision to work for yourself is a huge leap of faith in yourself as well as your own faith whatever that may be. It sure does take a lot of courage to make such a change. I guess it is a matter of trust with the people around you. In the case of Mrs. HC , I assume that Mr. HC encouraged Mrs. HC to go out on her own and be her own boss and pursue her dream job. I am sure Mrs. HC's decision to be her own boss was made easier knowing that she could trust her husband to be there to support her when things in her new career did not do well. I guess it is similar to my new patients who may be meeting me as a dentist for the first time who have been referred to see me by their friends or family. For that new patient, it is a matter of trust in me and courage on their part to take that leap of faith that things will be allright. I also applaud my patients for taking steps in making healthy choices in their lives both physically and emotionally. Again, Mr. and Mrs. HC..... Congratulations to the newlyweds and welcome back! ![]() Monday, April 5. 2004Braces for adultsThis entry is dedicated to my adult patient "Pinky" 2again, not her real name2. Pinky came into the office for a general cleaning and check up. 122he was very healthy and her teeth were in excellent shape with a few amalgam restorations. Her silver fillings were in great shape and she was not intersted in replacing the silver fillings for cosmetic reasons. Her smile was very beautiful and the teeth were a great shade of white that enhanced her smile. However, her main concern was her bite was not right, she said. In dental terms she had a cross bite on the left side of her jaw. The solution was to get braces to get her a beautiful smile. There are many adults that decide to get braces as adults for many reasons. 122ome missed the opportunity because their parents may or may not have found it necessary to do so ideologically or financially. Adult orthodontics is much slower than having it done as a child because the adults do not have the growth factor to speed up the process. Plus there may also be compromises to the results because of the lack of growth. Tolerance of pain and suffering form the braces is also a huge factor in the misery of having braces. As children, they are more able to adapt to such such inconveniences.
As a general rule I never think it is too late to have braces done at any age, but it is defintely better to have it done as a young child if you have the opportunity to do so. My advice to you parents is to counsel your children to definitely have their braces done if it is so indicated. Hope this helps some of you parents and adults that are currently in orthdontic treatment. Don't worry adults it just a few years to a beautiful smile! ![]() Just me![]() Me and my staff![]() Wednesday, March 31. 2004The effect of a beautiful smileToday's entry is dedicated to my patient Rose 2not her real name2. Rose has had difficullties with her teeth throughout her life and struggled over the past 10 years with the thought of having to have dentures to replace the teeth in the upper jaw. For Rose it really was not a financial decision, or any time constraints with her job and family life, but probably an emotional difficulty of having to transition to having a denture from her natural teeth that were compromised. I try to prepare my patients by letting them know the difficulties ahead of getting a denture with the adjustments needed to make it fit and feel "just right". Rose surprised me this morning with her beautiful smile , grinning from ear-to-ear. We had to make a few adjustments to her denture, but overall she was "happy as a clam".
It always makes me feel good to know that the services I provide can somehow brighten a person's day and enhance that person's perception of her own personal essence. Rose.... Thank you for your friendship for the past 14 years and thank you for your loyalty in trusting me with your dental care for all this time. ![]() A dental visitThis is a picture of me and my 3 year old son Calvin. He came in today to visit dad at work while we were taking photos to update our web site and office brochure. My "little guy" visiting me at work is always a welcomed surprise.
![]() Tuesday, March 30. 2004Why start a web log?Well, today I made the decision to start my web log. 122tarting a log for my patients and friends will hopefully make me more transparent in the sense that folks will see my personal side as well as my professional side. On a daily basis, I may see 15-20 patients and friends and we will have conversations that range the full spectrum of topics. 122ome are dentally relevant and some are just general interest stuff and about family life. It is my hope that my post can help some learn some things about dental procedures and just plain make you laugh and be entertained or be bored with some of my rants. Either way, we will all embark on this journey together and have some fun along the way. Because of privacy issues, I will never mention specific names unless I am given permission to do so. 122ome of you may think that this is risky with such a litigious environment we live in, but I think we lose more by not taking steps forward to meet opportunity. 122o today and maybe tomorrow, I look forward to inspiring some readers to take a chance and make a differerence by sharing some of your thoughts with people and hopefully bring a smile to their faces.
